Would you like to spend the day on the Olympia waterfront without the hassle of city traffic? Twin Transit has the perfect solution for you – hop on the bus! Twin Transit’s “Green Line” will take you from Centralia’s Mellen Street e-Transit Station to Olympia. The Green Line is an express route, stopping only once at the Tumwater Transit Hub near the L&I building before heading to the Olympia Transit Center. It only takes 40 minutes to get from the Mellen Street e-Transit Station to downtown Olympia!
From there, you can catch the bus to many other locations but for this visit, you’ll want to check out all there is to do at the waterfront, easily accessible by foot. You can walk to Heritage Park or Percival Landing Park, taking time to enjoy the waterfront views. Take the family to the fun and engaging Hands On Children’s Museum or the WET Science Center.
There are many unique local shops to poke around in like Courtyard Antiques and Home Decor, Drees (full of unique items) and for Washington-made items, visit The Legislative Gift Center. Grab a book at Last Word Books & Press or find something for your pet at The Pet Works.
There are also plenty of coffee shops to enjoy like Olympia Coffee Roasting, Burial Grounds Coffee Collective or Dancing Goats Coffee. Grab a scoop of ice cream at Sofie’s Scoops Gelato, Juju’s Iced Cream & Frozen Custard or grab coffee and ice cream while you create something beautiful at Painted Plate. Get fresh bakery items at The Bread Peddler or something sweet at Phoebe’s Pastry Café. And before you hop back on the bus toward home, stop by the Olympia Farmers Market on Thursdays or Fridays for some fresh veggies for your evening dinner.
The Green Line runs every 90 minutes from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday (weekdays only). The trip costs $4 per day or $40 per month. Twin Transit drivers take a lunch break from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., so be sure to take that into account when planning your journey.
Kids ride free, and the friendly drivers are always available to answer questions and help riders get to where they need to go. Children under ten must be accompanied by someone 16 years or older.
