Furniture buying can be as painful as car buying – an all-day experience that leaves you feeling drained emotionally and financially. That feeling of doubt you feel as you drive off the lot with your new car is felt while you wait for your new table or dresser to arrive. Did I pay too much? Did the salesperson exaggerate on the quality? What if something happens and it needs repairs? What if it doesn’t match my other furniture when I get it home? Thankfully Nelson’s Furniture Company has been helping local shoppers keep furniture buying easy and pain free for more than three decades.
Along with their new name and location, they have new inventory. Once called Nelson’s Just Wood Furniture, they now sell finished pieces, couches, recliners, mattresses and accessories including lamps and some wall art. This change allowed them to cater to their customers better – now you can come and shop for all your home furnishings in one place. What really makes them stand out, however, is their extra offerings.

“We are still a unique, one-of-a-kind furniture store because we still sell unfinished furniture that we then finish custom for the costumer,” says Tom Nelson, owner of Nelson’s Furniture Company. “Nobody else does it.” They have more than 75 different wood stain finishes in addition to an array of paint colors. This allows customers to create something truly unique to fit their style, or more importantly, to match existing furniture. And, it only takes them about a week to finish a piece for a customer.
Currently, gray and black are the “hot” finishes, Tom says, and are the most requested. But he notes that lighter woods seem to be more popular here than in Seattle, where dark wood furniture is what’s trendy.
And of course, for those DIYers, you can just as easily buy an unfinished piece from Nelson’s Furniture and take it to finish as you like. Tom says about 25 percent of his unfinished pieces go to people who finish them on their own.

Another thing you won’t find at other furniture stores is the ability to make simple custom pieces. “We do custom bookcases that are maybe a special height or have doors,” Tom says. “And simple hutch tops. Nothing complicated or fancy, but if a customer needs something to fit in a particular space or go with existing furniture, we can help them.”
These services mean you won’t have to worry about whether the furniture you are buying will go with what you have at home. Nelson’s can even match older stains that are no longer available.
Quality is definitely not an issue here either. Some of the unfinished pieces are from the Pacific Northwest and everything in the store is medium to high quality products – no cheap materials. “You won’t find particle board here,” Tom adds. All custom-stained pieces are coated with a clear coat to seal and protect.

Finally, for those looking for a good deal, Nelson’s Furniture has another unique offering you won’t find at other furniture stores – a Bargain Corner. “We take good, old wood furniture and refinish or repair it and then sell it at a great price,” Tom says. “It does really well. People are very happy to get it at such a good price and that makes us happy.”
Easy Purchasing
Once you’ve picked out your furniture – whether it’s an unfinished piece, couch, finished table, mattress or all four – Nelson’s Furniture has several purchasing options to make life easier. Of course, you can always pay cash, but they do have financing available, including 6-12 months with zero interest on approved credit or 90 day no interest with no credit check required.
Finally, Nelson’s Furniture is there if you need them even after you get your new furniture home. They are able to do minor repairs on all their furniture, including the upholstery and mechanisms in the recliners. This means you don’t have to search for a repair shop if something should happen – you can just contact Nelson’s Furniture. They are always willing to help when they can.
